Cactus Opuntia consolea

Opuntia consolea, commonly known as the Barbary Fig or Flat Cactus, is a distinctive and resilient cactus species native to the Caribbean and parts of Central America. This cactus is easily recognizable due to its flat, paddle-shaped pads that can grow up to 40 cm long.

It thrives in full sun and well-draining soil, such as a cactus mix. Watering should be done sparingly; allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, especially during its dormant winter period. This cactus is highly drought-tolerant, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping or low-maintenance gardens. It prefers warm temperatures but can tolerate a range of conditions; however, protection from frost is essential.
